Born in Eastbourne, I grew up on the South Coast in a small village called Chiddingly, surrounded by fields, sheep, woods, hills and the sea.
My background is in science; I studied Natural Sciences at St Catharine's College, part of the University of Cambridge, and graduated with a First in 2002. While I was at university, I began to get more involved with acting, shows and events, and started designing for them. Enough people liked what I did that I decided to design more and, shortly after starting a BTEC at the London College of Communication, I moved to a department of the University as a designer and webmaster. Whilst there, I redesigned all of their communications and their website, and designed and coded a powerful CRM system, still in use three years later.
In 2006 I moved to Cambridge University Press's Marketing Design department, which is responsible for producing all of the marketing design for the UK branch of the Press. Whilst there I designed over a thousand pieces of marketing material, and used my skills in process improvement and automation to comprehensively improve their workflow. I also coded the Press's global internal news website, which won a Gold Award for 'Best online news service' at the Association of Communicators in Business awards 2008.
I'd been freelancing for several years, and in November 2008 I decided to take the plunge and work for myself full-time.
From a technical point of view, I am fluent in Adobe's Creative Suite, ASP and php. Though 'proper' scripters may sniff, I'm also proficient at AppleScript, which automates processes on a Mac, and have developed various systems which interface with InDesign to automate database-driven DTP systems.
